Northwest Coast Native American inspired artwork by artist Heidi Keller
“My paddles, both functional and decorative, are all created in a similar way. Until the final varnishing, there is a great deal of sanding done between coats of acrylic paint, then artwork and finally varnish. In addition, paddles to be used in the water get several coats of marine varnish. Decorative paddles get matte varnish and hand waxing.
My paintings are acrylic, sometimes gouache. I have prints, giclees, note/greeting cards, etc…
I am deeply moved by Northwest Coast Native American art, the rhythm of the earth and her animals. These are the things that inspire me. I have also been given permission and encouraged by Native American Elders to do this style of art.”
